An English-taught Medical Undergraduate Program
KEY FEATURES
A new undergraduate program in medicine is scheduled to begin in autumn 2011. This program
was set up to meet the challenges and new needs for a top level education for the future medical
professionals to serve in varied culture and countries.
All courses will be taught in English. The curriculum of the program has been designed to help
students gain sound professional integrity, solid ground of basic medicine and systematic
knowledge of clinical medicine and clinical skills and the ability to tackle problems in clinical
settings. In the framework of the curriculum, students are trained, by using cutting-edge methods
with early hands-on clinical experience, in an all-round way that their knowledge, ability and
personality are all well-developed and that they are highly adaptable to the modern medical
modes of their respective countries of professional practice. Tailored courses will be offered to
students who need to take Physician Qualification Exams required by the relevant regulatory
bodies of different countries.
Approved by the Ministry of Education of China, Tongji University School of Medicine will provide
no more than 30 seats for outstanding students who pursue excellence in medical practice and
research. After acquiring credits required for graduation and meeting the requirements of
applicable regulations of Tongji University, students will be awarded a diploma and an MBBS
degree from Tongji University.

Tongji University School of Medicine
Tongji University was founded as Tongji German Medical School by Erich Paulun, a German doctor,
in Shanghai in 1904. Thus, medicine is a traditional and key discipline of Tongji University. The
School of Medicine offers a whole range of programs that lead to bachelor degree of medicine,
master degree of medicine/science, and doctoral degree of medicine/philosophy. The school is

Campus life
Tongji University School of Medicine is on Siping Campus of Tongji University, a garden campus
which lies in the northeastern part of Shanghai and west of Huangpu River. International students
are accommodated in the International Students Service Center. The dorms are well equipped
and with easy access to internet. Library, stores, sports fields, café and canteens, all these things

Scholarships
Tongji University School of Medicine offers the following scholarship opportunities to
self-financed students of this program. To receive scholarship consideration, applicants must
meet the requirements for the scholarships to which they are applying. Scholarships are awarded
based on merit (academic performance, leadership strengths, special contribution, etc.).
l Honor Scholarship
To be eligible, recipients must have an exceptional academic background, as the top 10%
students of the program and demonstrate the potential to excel continuously in the past
academic year. Winners receive a tuition scholarship of up to 50% of next year. To apply,
students must fill in and submit Honor Scholarship Application Form.
l TUSM Scholarship
To be eligible, recipients must have an excellent academic background, as the top 30%
students of the program in the past academic year. Winners receive a tuition scholarship of
up to 20% of next year. To apply, students must fill in and submit TUSM Scholarship
Application Form. Honor Scholarship cannot be combined with TUSM Scholarship.
l Tongji President Scholarship for International Students
To be eligible, recipients must meet the requirement of Tongji University for the scholarship.
l Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for International Students
To be eligible, recipients must meet the requirement for the scholarship published by
Shanghai Municipal Government.

QUALIFICATION
l Eligibility: High school graduate or above, non-Chinese citizen
l Language: valid TOEFL or IELTS scores-- minimum 93 /237 / 580 for TOEFL, or 6.0 for IELTS, or
certificates or proofs that can prove equivalent English language proficiency.
*Applicants from countries where English is the official or working language and applicants
who have studied in an English-taught high school or college are exempted from TOEFL and
IELTS report.
